Opening Soon: Off The Wall Craft Desserts & Kitchen
Posted on January 22, 2015
We love when new restaurants consider a different dining experience, it adds a new layer of creativity to the food scene here in Hawaii. Being in Kaka’ako, the name Ed Morita (formerly of Highway Inn) is no stranger to us. When we found out about his new spot with partner Kyle Matsumoto of Off The Wall Restaurant and Catering we jumped at the opportunity to sample their food!
The concept is unique, but to boil it down simply…just ask yourself, do you want #dessertfirst OR #foodfirst? We were treated to a coursed “face-off” between savory and sweet dishes, challenging our senses and making us wonder if we did indeed…want #dessertfirst! Here’s a sampling of what we ate:
Round 1
Bacon pecan sticky bun with manhattan spiked honey (#dessertfirst) VS. Ahi cupcake with ginger sesame “frosting”, yuzu tobiko and bulbo arare (#foodfirst)
Round 2
Nutella sandwich roll with provolone and white chocolate haupia glaze (#dessertfirst) VS. Vegetarian sandwich roll with homemade ketchup (#foodfirst)
Round 3
Beeramisu cream puff made with balck sand porter (#dessertfirst) VS. Bacon goat cheese & chive puffs with lilikoi glaze (#foodfirst)
We also enjoyed a line-up of craft “mocktails”, a delicious Ozoni pizza and many other unique bites made by Chef de Cuisine, Andrew Mitani! The food offered great conversation amongst our team based on our favorite dishes.
You’ll have to stop in and try the dishes and let us know, if you are a #DESSERTFIRST or #FOODFIRST person! The soft opening is set for January 29th and the grand opening event will be on Valentine’s Day at 1272 S King St. (formerly Tsunamis).
