Winterizing your food truck… in Hawaii

During this season, trucks operating in colder areas will lose up to 50% of their usual business, and need to make some adjustments to the way they do business to make up for the loss of business. While we don’t have to deal with the cold, and all the woes that come with it, we can still take something away from what our food truck friends are doing across the country.

Plan Ahead - Planning ahead can make all the difference. If you know that business tends to slow down during the winter, plan accordingly. Put some money aside during the busy months to make up the difference.

Consider Catering – Tis the season for holiday parties and get-togethers. Supplement your holiday income with some catering gigs during the holidays.   (contact Street Grindz about possible catering opportunities

Embrace Your Mobility – One of the major benefits of your food truck (compared to a brick and mortar space) is that you’re mobile. Use that to your advantage.
Try new areas, Work with neighboring businesses/shopping centers/ office buildings, see about working with charities and social groups, etc. Embrace your mobility and use it to the benefit of your business. (But remember, there are rules regarding where you can/can’t do business. Be aware of the laws in your area)

Change Your Menu - Winter is a great time to change up your menu. Whether its because of the cold weather, or just the general hustle and bustle of the holiday season, you need to find a way to draw your customers attention away from everything that’s going on and have them focus on you for a second.
Winter is the perfect time to make use of seasonal ingredients like yams, squashes, persimmons and of course the ever popular pumpkin. Incorporate some fresh/local/seasonal ingredients into your menu this season and highlight some of those holiday flavors people are craving,
