[Recap] Eat The Street: Philippines
Posted on February 1, 2014
It ended up being a windy and drizzly night at Eat The Street last night in Kaka’ako, but we can always count on you to show up.
…and show up you did.
Even before the event began, there was a line forming full of hungry fans waiting for their first taste of the infamous Ramen Burger from NYC. While food trucks were still rolling in and setting up, people were setting up chairs and opening umbrellas they prepare to be among the first to get their hands on the hottest food trend of 2013.
This was just the beginning. This line stretched over the span of the entire event and over the course of 5hours until every last Ramen Burger was gone.

Of course, because it was a Philippines themed event, Elenas Filipino was another highlight of the event.
It was great to see so many people headed over to Elenas Filipino food truck for our ode to the Philippines food truck rally. Personally, I would have gone to them either way. I almost always get something from Elena’s at each event, and this Eat The Street was no exception.
Pork Guisantes and Elena’s famous AFRO (Adobo Fried Rice Omelet). Let me tell you, if you are at Eat The Street and you are hungry, pick yourselves up one of these. The omelet is huge and stuffed full of their pork adobo fried rice. The pork guisantes really git the spot last night when the wind started really blowing. Chunks of pork and peas in a tasty tomato sauce. Perfect for warming the tummy.
Then there is the other Elena’s staple. Their Lechon Special.
Crispy roast pork mixed with onion and tomato. Its like if Bacon said to Salmon, “get out of the lomi lomi… I got this”.
For those of you trying to get friends to try Filipino food or want to try it for yourself for the first time, you can not go wrong with this dish. (In fact, this might have to be a feature in an upcoming #SMPL blog post)
However, no Filipino food festival is complete without that delicacy infamous in Filipino culture that few (or in last nights case, MANY) people have braved. The notorious balut.
Beyond Burger came with an awesome Adobo Burger.
The Girls Who Bake Nextdoor brought some Ube and Coconut Cupcakes
Heres a video we posted on our Instagram showing how to eat a cupcake at Eat The Street
Which went perfectly with my Ube Ice Cream Sandwich from No Ka Oi Cookie Co
